Overview
people.rentals connects you with verified local workers in Austin, TX who can handle physical tasks on your behalf. Post what you need, set a budget, and a nearby worker takes care of it. You get geo-tagged proof when it's done.
Payments are held in escrow until the task is verified complete. Workers are ID-verified and rated by other users. You never pay until the job is done.
How it works
Post a task
Describe what you need, pick a category, set your budget and deadline. Add proof requirements like number of photos or GPS verification.
Worker matches
Verified workers nearby see your task. The platform ranks them by proximity, skills, and rating. A worker accepts and heads to the location.
Verify and pay
The worker submits geo-tagged proof (photos, GPS, timestamps). Review it and release payment—or it auto-releases after 72 hours.
Task categories
Every task must fall into an approved category. Each has a minimum budget to ensure fair pay for workers.
| Category | Min | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Package handling | $15 | Receive, hold, or deliver packages |
| Photo verification | $15 | Take photos of a location, property, or item |
| Event attendance | $25 | Attend an event, stand in line, hold a spot |
| Street team | $20 | Distribute flyers, post signs, brand promotion |
| Hardware setup | $40 | Install, configure, or troubleshoot equipment |
| Inspection | $30 | Inspect property, vehicle, or equipment condition |
| Errand | $15 | Pick up, drop off, or purchase items |
Task lifecycle
Every task moves through a defined set of states from creation to completion.

Proof & verification
When posting a task, you specify proof requirements: number of photos, whether video is needed, and if GPS tagging is required. When the worker completes the task, they submit proof from the task location.
The platform automatically validates:
- GPS coordinates match the task location
- Timestamps are within the expected window
- Required number of photos/videos are included
- EXIF data is cross-checked for authenticity
If proof passes validation, it's auto-approved and payment releases immediately. Otherwise, you review it manually.
Payments
Payments use Stripe. Your card is authorized when a worker accepts your task—you're not charged until the task is complete.
Platform fee
15% is added to your task budget. Workers always receive the full posted amount. On a $100 task, you pay $115 and the worker gets $100.
Escrow
Funds are held until you approve proof or the 72-hour auto-release window passes. Your card isn't charged until completion.
Disputes
If you dispute, funds are held while an admin reviews (within 48 hours). Outcomes: full refund, full payment to worker, or a split.
Cancellation
Free if no worker has accepted yet. After acceptance, the authorization is voided.
Worker verification
Every worker on the platform is verified before they can accept tasks.
Government ID upload + real-time selfie with liveness check. Required for all workers. Free, usually instant.
Full background check (criminal history, sex offender registry). Optional, but these workers are prioritized in matching. Takes 1–3 business days.
Reviews & ratings
After a task completes, both you and the worker rate each other independently (1–5 stars + optional comment). Ratings are revealed simultaneously—neither party sees the other's rating until both submit or 72 hours pass.
Workers below a 3.5 star average (after 10+ tasks) receive a warning. Below 3.0 (after 15+ tasks), they're deactivated. Requesters below 3.0 get a visible warning shown to workers.
